Movimento Viva Água

Viva Água is a multi-actor movement aiming to connect and integrate efforts toward water security and climate resilience, through strategies for nature conservation and the transition to a sustainable economy.

Water is the common thread of actions that contribute for the transformation of socioeconomic and environmental reality, with nature conservation, restoration of natural ecosystems, in addition to sustainable agriculture and entrepreneurship.

Conceived by the Boticário Group Foundation for Nature Protection, this is a diverse movement that connects people, public and private organizations, and financial resources to implement and strengthen solutions for water security, sustainable business, and quality of life.

And the union of different organizations allows this movement to act in order to guarantee access to water considering the population’s basic needs and well-being; in the preservation of ecosystems for the benefit of nature and people; in the resilience to extreme events such as droughts and floods; and in the supply of water for productive activities and multiple uses.

PILLARS OF IMPACT

The actions of the Viva Água movement are based on 4 pillars:

Water
security

Vegetation conservation and restoration in strategic areas, such as springs, riverbanks and tributaries, mitigate the impacts of dry periods and reduce water treatment costs. Coverage with native vegetation and well cared soil keep its moisture, ensuring this essential resource is available for longer. Vegetation conservation also acts as a filter reducing the amount of sediment and making the water cleaner.

Climate change
resilience

Based on the restoration, conservation of natural ecosystems and the implementation of sustainable production models, we can improve the resilience of watersheds to the effects of climate change and, thus, avoid increased costs to health and the local economy.

Que contemplam:

Nature
conservation

Nature is an asset that enhances regional economic development. Strategic action to conserve natural environments reduces risks related to health and business in the target region, in addition to maintaining access to natural resources and services, such as water and pollination.

Sustainable
entrepreneurship

Fostering entrepreneurship with a positive socio-environmental impact by strengthening local production chains. Implementing sustainable models of agricultural production and responsible tourism as a strategy to diversify rural landowners’ sources of income, connecting them to sustainable activities in their regions.

ESSENTIAL FOR LIFE

The Viva Água movement connects people, multisectoral organizations and financial resources to implement and strengthen solutions that generate positive social and environmental impact.
